Literature Matters in the North West

26 January 2005

Literature Matters is a national two-year initiative to enthuse trainee teachers about children’s literature and libraries, and is jointly funded by the DfES, the Arts Council and MLA. Librarians from School Library Services and public libraries will work closely with ITT providers and the literature sector to build training into courses, and develop sustainable relationships.
The project aims:

  • To increase knowledge of children’s books and libraries (with particular reference to diversity)
  • To increase confidence in promoting children’s books and using libraries

Here in the North West, we are linking the project to live literature events and family reading groups, working in partnership with ASCEL NW, ACE NW, TTR, the TTA and a wide range of primary and secondary ITT providers.
