MLA North West was overwhelmed by the response to this year’s call for nominations and the judging process proved very difficult. It served as a real reminder to us all of the powerful impact that museums, libraries and archives have on people’s lives, and as a reminder of the creativity and innovation which exists in the sector.
The North West has a thriving cultural infrastructure which brings great benefits to the region and which provides creative environments and resources for all communities. The winning projects and individuals clearly demonstrate that museums, libraries and archives are particularly effective in offering unique, enjoyable and enriching experiences.
MLA North West was delighted to present the following awards for outstanding examples of excellence:
-
Bolton Libraries – ‘What do you Want? The Art of Community Consultation’ in the category of Helping Create Inclusive and Diverse Communities
-
Lancashire Museum Service - ‘Using Museums for More than Key Stage 2 History’ in the category of Engaging Children, Young People and Families
-
Gallery Oldham- ‘Creative Tension’ in the category of Making the North West a Great Place to Visit
-
The Manchester Museum - ‘Collective Conversations’ in the category of Improving and Innovating
Full details of these projects, along with the runners-up in each category, can be found in the Inspiring North West Culture Awards 2006 awards publication
