MLA launches Setting the Pace for the Cultural Olympiad

13 July 2007

This week the MLA Partnership launched Setting the Pace, outlining its strategy to ensure that every region in the country gets the opportunity to participate in the Olympics through its network of museums, libraries and archives.

Newly appointed Culture Minister, Margaret Hodge, said that ‘we must grasp the opportunity of a lifetime to showcase the very best of British culture’

She said the Cultural Olympiad showed the games to be about much more than the host city and welcomed MLA's commitment to encouraging activity in the English regions.

MLA chairman, Mark Wood said the Cultural Olympiad was key to the success of 2012. "It's about leaving a lasting legacy”.

‘Setting the Pace’ has five strands of activity:

· The International Exhibitions Programme

· The People’s Record

· The Record

· Literature and storytelling

· Information Hubs
