Leading organisations from across the cultural sector joined together for the first time to publish a vision for the future and a plan of action. In a joint document, Values and Vision: The Contribution of Culture, the organisations call for a new settlement with government so that Britain can maintain its position as a world-class culture.

The MLA/V&A Purchase Grant Fund celebrates 125 years of supporting regional acquisitions

Over the past 125 years, the Purchase Grant Fund has enabled regional organisations from Cornwall to Cumbria to acquire objects as varied as Bronze Age rings, a Victorian kitchen range, a manuscript by Ted Hughes, Gainsborough drawings and a Grayson Perry pot.
The Haig Colliery Mining Museum are delighted to receive The Pride in Copeland Visitor attraction of the Year Award 2006.

MLA North West has joined forces with the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) and the eight other independent regional agencies to create ‘The MLA Partnership’. The new national board will include the Chairs of all the regional agencies and MLA North West has now become part of this new national partnership to collectively lead the transformation of England’s museums, libraries and archives and promote their unique contribution for the future.

Adult learners from across the North West have taken part in Inspired By, a national art competition organised by MLA North West and the V&A Museum, London as part of Adult Learner’s Week. 10 lucky winners will have their artwork displayed throughout Manchester Art Gallery, alongside the work from the Gallery’s collection that inspired them.

£640,000 boost to the North West’s museum collections

Seven museums in the North West are benefiting from funding to enhance their collections, which are among some of the most important in the country. The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) is making the awards from its Designation Challenge Fund to ensure that these outstanding collections can be enjoyed and appreciated by as many people as possible.
