Developing the Library Workforce: Promoting NVQs

MLA North West is working within the MLA Workforce Development Strategy to ensure Libraries have the workforce they need to deliver the challenging agenda for libraries.

We are currently sponsoring a group of students and assessors in the Greater Manchester area to undertake the NVQ Level 3 in Information and Library Studies. This:

  • enables a wider range of staff to have their skills recognised by gaining recognised qualifications
  • encourages staff to develop their skills and constibute even more effectively to the overall development of their library services
  • opens up opportunities for further development, including progression to professional staus via the new CILIP Qualifications Framework

The effectiveness of the scheme in achieving these objectives will be assessed and promoted to all library services.
