Aimed at teachers and for all museum staff, particularly those interested in education and learning in schools, this seminar is provided by Renaissance North West.
Literacy is still a major priority for schools in the North West and museums and galleries have been proven to be ideal places to develop pupils' literacy skills. This workshop will draw on experience from a successful initiative MAGPIE in Manchester and will give participants hands on opportunities to try out new techniques that they can use in their own museums and galleries.
By the end of the session, participants will:
have a greater understanding of how literacy is taught in schools
have found out about how museums and galleries in Manchester have successfully helped raise pupil attainment in literacy
have obtained ideas on how to develop a literacy session in their museum or gallery
have built confidence in developing and teaching literacy
