Day 1 Before Dinner Welcome Talk, Oak Hall

Meet in the main workshop with an open discussion about edge tools to be sharpened with the different types of abrasives and machinery that will be available for use.

Day 2 |
Morning
|
A general discussion on health and safety during the course. Japanese Water Stones. Lapping techniques.
Diamond hones. Diamond lapping pastes. Bench grinders.
|
Afternoon
|
Grinding angles. Blade sharpening lectures and individual tuition. Tuning woodworking planes.
|
Evening
|
Video and lectures on diamond hones and Japanese sword making.
|
Day 3
|
Morning
|
Continue with the sharpening of blades. Making a blade. Forging.
|
Afternoon
|
Making a blade from Japanese Shiro Gami, white paper steel. Forging using charcoal, grinding, hardening and tempering.
|
Evening
|
Demonstration for sharpening and tuning the tools that students bring.
|
Day 4 |
Morning
|
Open house to include all tools that have not been dealt with.
Continue with the tuning of additional tools. Lecture on carbon steel.

Afternoon
|
Open discussion on the techniques used. Where to buy materials and tools.
