MLA North West and the North West Regional Archive Council are reviewing the achievements of the North West archive domain since 2001 and more importantly scoping the direction, activities and resources required to build on these achievements in the future
In 2001 the North West Regional Archive Council, in partnership with MLA (then Resource) published the first regional archive strategy Forward Together. This was an ambitious plan for archives in North West which identified 30 projects over 10 strategic themes and aimed to develop archive services through co-operation and partnership, increasing resources, improving access for users and raising the profile of archives in the region. This strategy led to the development of projects such as the North West Archives Festival, the Logjam project and the Conservation and Preservation Audit, all of which have had an impact on archive servicesin the region.
MLA North West and the North West Regional Archive Council are now reviewing the achievements of the NW archive domain since 2001 and more importantly scoping the direction, activities and resources required to build on these achievements in the future. A new strategy and action plan is in production which will build on these strengths, analyse new pressures and opportunities for archives in the region, providing a plan for the next 3 years.
We are keen to ensure that ALL archivists, archive users and stakeholders have an opportunity to participate in this process. Views will be sought via questionnaires, interviews and a workshop. You are invited to a workshop to discuss the direction of strategy and its accompanying action plan on the afternoon of 6th April at the Goldstone Room, Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.
