MLA North West is pleased to welcome more museums into the Museum Accreditation Scheme.

The Accreditation Scheme for Museums in the United Kingdom sets nationally agreed standards for museums, setting clear requirements on how they are managed, how they look after their collections and also the services that they offer to their users and visitors.
Could You Be a Curatorial Advisor?

Many smaller museums need a Curatorial Advisor. Curatorial Advisers play a vital role in supporting and helping develop museums which do not have qualified and experience museum professional staff. Access to professional advice is a requirement for all museums applying for Accredited status, and this can be provided externally by a Curatorial Adviser appointed by the museum. And even if the museum is not considering applying for Accreditation, it can still benefit from the professional advice that a Curatorial Advisor can give.
New Chief Executive of MLA Council announced

MLA Council has announced that Roy Clare, previously Director of National Museum at Greenwich, has been appointed as its new Chief Executive. He will take up his new role at the beginning of September.

MLA is working to create a culture of enterprise in museums, libraries and archives through its joint initiative with Make Your Mark, Enterprise Week – a national campaign to encourage and highlight how the creative sector supports and nurtures enterprise in young people aged 14 to 30.
Culture North West launches regional knowledge portal

This week, Culture Northwest launched the Northwest Culture Observatory, a knowledge portal providing online access to cross-sector and region-wide cultural research, data and intelligence.
MLA launches Setting the Pace for the Cultural Olympiad

This week the MLA Partnership launched Setting the Pace, outlining its strategy to ensure that every region in the country gets the opportunity to participate in the Olympics through its network of museums, libraries and archives.


Fulfilling their Potential in North West Libraries

David Lammy visits Preston with MLA North West

David Lammy, Minister for Culture in the department of Culture, Media and Sport visits Preston today to launch the new Lancashire Conservation Studios. MLA North West are also accompanying the Minister to other cultural organisations including The Harris Museum and Art Gallery and The National Football Museum.

In June this year, MLA called for nominations from public library authorities for the first ever Love Libraries Award. By close of nominations a staggering 30% of public library authorities in England had nominated projects for the Love Libraries Award.
