Wigan resident, Derek Tyrer, a marketing consultant , won the Manchester Business School Skills Bank Adviser of the Year Award 2006 for a forward planning and marketing project he undertook with the Atkinson Art Gallery and Botanic Gardens Museum in Southport.
Information is power

On 25 April 2007, RNIB launched a series of leaflets called 'Information is Power'. They cover the high street, health services, local government, schools and television and public libraries.

The leaflets look at a number of key areas that show how society can empower blind and partially sighted people and each leaflet identifies five priorities for action.
REFLECT Creative Partnerships National co-mentoring programme

Would you like space to think and reflect on your practice and exchange ideas with others?
Could you benefit from being paired with another professional who could support you in your work?

Led by The Sage Gateshead, and commissioned by Creative Partnerships, REFLECT is a new national professional development opportunity linking teachers and school staff with individuals from creative and cultural organisations and businesses across England in co-mentoring pairs. Each pair will meet approximately five times and will be supported by face-to-face training, professional development and networking events, to enable then to enhance creativity within their organisations.

Jodi Awards 2007 – deadline for nominations approaching

Nominations for the prestigious Jodi Awards for Excellence in accessible museum, library and archive technology are being sought. All uses of technology, such as websites, interactive exhibits and audio-guides are eligible for an Award.
Basic Introduction to Collections Care

Renaissance NW working in partnership with Lancashire County Museum Service are pleased to announce six free courses entitled ‘Basic Introduction to Collections Care’. The ½ day course is being offered to all staff (including volunteers) whatever their jobs, background or experience.
Transforming culture, media and sport

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has achieved ‘significant successes’ and has ‘knowledgeable, committed staff and a positive working environment’, according to the departmental capability review published today by the Cabinet Office.

Through the Powerbrokers strand of the Cultural Leadership Programme a national programme of Leadership Development Days will roll out across England from 2nd May until June 2007. This innovative series of one-day workshops will inspire, challenge and provide creative leadership support.
Renaissance North West announces the launch of two small grants schemes. £135,000 of Renaissance monies is being made available direct to regional museums.

Together we are providing a programme of regional investment that uses Collections for the Future as a model, and focuses on providing benefits to users by improving access and use of collections through better collections development & care and interpretation.
Awards for All (A4A)

Awards for All (A4A) is the small grants scheme administered by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of lottery good cause funders like Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. A4A makes awards of between £300 and £10,000 to grass roots community groups and voluntary organisations.
